The Malheur County Circuit Court in Vale, Oregon, is hiring a Post-Conviction Relief and Habeas Clerk (Court Operations Associate) to join our team. In this role, you will perform data entry for our post-conviction relief and habeas corpus cases. You will proofread documents for accuracy and completeness, prepare paperwork for the judge’s review and signature, and update case events in the electronic case management system. You will review financial applications and make recommendations for the appointment of court appointed attorneys. You will also help train court staff about post-conviction relief and habeas corpus case processes. In the courtroom, you will operate electronic and digital recording equipment to create a record of court proceedings. You will perform real-time data entry, generate instant judgments when judges impose sentences, and prepare and review a variety of paperwork. You will coordinate remote court appearances, including appearances through Webex, polycom, and the telephone. During court and outside of the courtroom, you will schedule and organize the most critical civil and criminal court dockets. You will help jurors, litigants, attorneys, law enforcement officers, probation personnel, criminal defendants, and members of the public by answering questions and providing directions. You will meet with self-represented litigants to provide information about court processes and forms, available legal resources, referrals, and the status of cases. The customer service you provide will be in person, over the phone, and in writing. You will spend part of your time providing backup for other court staff, including the court reporter. Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

Requirements

  • The qualified candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three (3) or more years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.
  • OR Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
