About The Position

This is professional social services work in a county Children and Youth Agency. Employees in this class provide case management services to children, youth and families to ensure the health and safety of each child in the family and to assist the family in attaining a more satisfactory social, economic, emotional, or physical adjustment.

Requirements

  • Six months of experience as a County Caseworker 1; or
  • Successful completion of the County Social Casework Intern program; or
  • A bachelor's degree with a social welfare major; or
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
  • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing presenting problems, strengths and needs of families.
  • Assisting families in developing and using their own potential for more adequately resolving their social, health, emotional and economic problems.
  • Providing social services, such as home and budget management, housing, child care and parenting skills, employment, and when necessary, placement of children in foster or adoptive homes, residential facilities or institutions.
  • Scheduling and conducting interviews and follow-up visits to provide service and counseling.
  • Preparing social studies, case summaries, reports, and correspondence.
  • Preparing documents and providing testimony in court under supervision.
  • Making referrals to other public and private social service organizations and community agencies and resources to meet the child's needs and assisting children, youth and their families in understanding and utilizing these resources.
  • Developing a specific written service plan for each family member with input from the family whenever possible.
  • Linking the family to services to meet service plan requirements through the process of prompt authorization and referral
