Counselor - NextUp, EOPS, & Dream (Full-Time, Categorically Funded) Madera Community College Minimum Qualifications All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; and Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work or career development; AND One of the following below: (1) Nine semester units of college course work predominantly related to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; OR (2) Six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; AND All candidates must have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; OR A valid California Community College Credential; or The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency) ( NOTE : A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist ( MFT ) is an alternative qualification for this discipline. If the degrees posted on your transcript(s) do not match EXACTLY as stated above, you MUST petition for equivalency.)

Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds including students with disabilities
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students
  • Related work and professional experience
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students
  • Experience working in EOPS
  • Experience coordinating community college-based grant funded programs and/or categorical programs
  • Experience working with students from traditionally disadvantaged backgrounds, students with disabilities, veterans, and/or single parents
  • Experience with reporting to an outside governing agency
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and conflicting demands
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and develop educational workshops
  • Proficient utilizing available computer applications and technology related to program coordination, counseling, and instruction
  • Commitment to participatory governance, consensus building, and a team approach to serving students
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and counsel persons of diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds
  • Successful counseling experience in a community college
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals
