About The Position

Inc. is accepting online applications for one open position for Counsel/Senior Counsel in our Finance & Treasury Law Group located in Houston, Texas, through January 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (Central Standard Time). The Finance & Treasury Law (FTL) Group supports Chevron’s Global Treasury team, which has team members located throughout the world including Houston, San Ramon (CA), London, Manila, Buenos Aires, and Singapore. The Treasury team supports Chevron Corporation and all subsidiaries, divisions, and ventures to protect and enhance Chevron’s financial strength, flexibility, and reputation. FTL Law assists Treasury and Chevron’s operating companies and joint ventures with financing for ongoing business, commercial activities, and new projects; risk mitigation and financial assurances for all commercial operations, investments, and transactions; and management of credit, commodity and other financial exposures, cash and currency investments and insurance needs. This position will be based in Houston, Texas, and will report to General Counsel, Chevron New Energies and Innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate in Law from an accredited U.S. college or university.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas or actively admitted in another U.S. state.
  • Minimum 8 years of significant, directly relevant experience in full service legal support and direct client and stakeholder counseling for finance and related transaction matters for companies (not only lenders), including material experience at a top tier law firm representing companies.
  • Extensive experience advising capital users, companies and private equity funds on complex and sophisticated debt financings, restructurings, M&A transactions, investments, joint ventures, commercial, corporate governance and other general corporate, securities, and transactional experience.
  • Excels at positive, productive relationship building, including coordinating and collaborating with global multidisciplinary, cross-border teams of client and counterparty business professionals, inhouse and outside legal professionals and subject matter experts of all levels.
  • Highly adept commercial and creative thinker who is a quick learner with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Self-starter who excels at productivity, practical problem-solving and navigating seamlessly between big picture strategy and details.
  • Ability to pivot quickly, and thrive, in a fast-paced team-oriented environment with a diverse, high-volume workload across time zones and under competing deadline pressures.
  • Excellent written and verbal business-focused communication and ability to explain complex issues in simple, straightforward, and easy-to-understand terms.
  • Requires flexibility in work schedule because of global and very time-sensitive projects and transactions.
  • Travel as needed, including occasional travel outside the U.S

Nice To Haves

  • Very strong preference for candidate with an undergraduate accounting, finance or other degrees requiring strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
  • In-house experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an integrated legal partner and counselor to Enterprise Finance, Credit & Risk Control, Corporate Finance & Insurance, Global Working Capital Optimization, and the Buenos Aires and Manila Financial Shared Services and Business Support Centers.
  • Provide legal advice on risk exposure and potential mitigation solutions on a broad range of Chevron transactions and business activities, including global finance, regulatory, investment, bankruptcy/restructuring, procurement, commercial/operational, governance, corporate and other transactional matters.
  • Advise on, structure, and negotiate, debt financings (bank, bond, third party and intercompany included), financial assurances (including parent company guarantees, letters of credit, bank guarantees, surety bonds and escrow agreements), creditworthiness standards, decommissioning security, banking and investment accounts and services, insurance-related agreements, and M&A, joint venture and commercial investments and transactions.
  • Effectively partner and collaborate closely with business professionals, in-house and outside counsel and legal analysts, across Finance & Treasury, Upstream, Downstream Midstream & Chemicals, and New Energies, and subject matter experts (such as tax, corporate compliance, corporate governance and accounting policy).
  • Supervise outside counsel retained to assist with the support of Treasury.
