About The Position

We are seeking a clinically independent and security-focused Registered Nurse (RN) to provide comprehensive health services within a correctional setting. This critical role involves applying a wide scope of practice, including executing Licensed Independent Provider (LIP) orders, dispensing medications, coordinating specialized services, and performing clinical procedures within the scope of education and licensure. The RN acts as both a direct care provider and a clinical resource, ensuring the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance of medical services for the inmate/resident population.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited college, university, or nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing.
  • Must possess current licensure in the state of employment.
  • One (1) year of professional nursing experience is preferred, but not strictly required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • COVID vaccine and recent TB test are required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide comprehensive nursing care, executing LIP orders, dispensing and administering medications (e.g., during pill call), and assisting LIPs in examinations.
  • Examine and assess new inmates/residents or those who become ill/injured.
  • Perform necessary emergency procedures and notify the LIP for immediate treatment orders.
  • Provide guidance, supervise, and monitor nursing care delivered by LPN/LVN and non-licensed medical staff.
  • Regularly evaluate medical services to prevent inappropriate use.
  • Closely monitor potential catastrophic illnesses.
  • Assist the Health Service Administrator (HSA) with file review for documentation and audit pharmacy use for formulary adherence.
  • Inspect the medical unit for contraband; securely store or safely dispose of supplies.
  • Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records.
  • Coordinate professional medical services provided by contract personnel and ensure effective communication across departments.
  • Facilitate NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation.
  • Review and process lawsuits (via corporate counsel) and attend court hearings when required.
