About The Position

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as a Corrections Grounds Supervisor located at Pontiac Correctional Center. The ideal candidate will be adept in caring for the facility grounds by maintaining all lawns, yards, roadways, ditches, and facility parking lots as well as the upkeep and maintenance of all lawn equipment and accessories, large tractors, snow removal equipment, and utility vehicles. The candidate must have the ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions for snow/ice removal, mowing lawns, patching roads, and cleaning up after storm related damages. Duties will include supervising Individuals in Custody and leading by example and instruction. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
  • Requires two (2) years of experience in grounds maintenance and gardening.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises individuals in custody engaged in the care and restoration of the facility grounds.
  • Monitors and directs the operation of the landscaping and maintenance of facility grounds, including the planning and laying out of flower beds.
  • Monitors and directs maintenance of walks, ditches, or watersheds, facility exterior signs and roadways around the facility.
  • Enforces and maintains safety, disciplinary, sanitary and custodial measures.
  • Operates and directs the use of power equipment such as power mowers, tractors, weed eaters and snowplows used in the maintenance of facility and grounds.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
