About The Position

This position reports to the Correctional Programs Director and functions in the Programs Section of a minimum custody male correctional facility. This position provides transitional and re-entry programs and oversees rehabilitation programming for offenders. This position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Reviewing, analyzing and evaluating various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, written documentation and personal observation. 2. Training, observing, evaluating and supervising Correctional Case Managers in their duties and responsibilities to ensure that the Programs Section meets the necessary goals. 3. Working with community agencies to enrich programs and establish new program activities and coordinating program activities with custody staff. 4. Operating as a certified employee, this position may be subject to assist in any certified capacity as needed which includes custody department and Administrative Services. 5. Performing crisis intervention and routine counseling to include suicide prevention. 6. Being accountable for the development, implementation and maintenance of one or more major and broad programs for offenders. The primary program areas are offender classification, correctional programs (incentive wage, adult basic education, volunteer programs, religion and recreation), and supportive counseling. 7. Coordinating of Programs activities with custody staff to develop, implement, coordinate and supervise programs associated with offenders’ treatment, re-entry, and or behavior. 8. Working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent and verbally abusive.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution AND one year of experience in corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented knowledge of supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessment.
  • Documented knowledge of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs.
  • Documented 12 months (1 year) of correctional program experience.
