This Correctional Officer Lieutenant position is located at Gadsden Re-Entry Correctional Institution. The incumbent in this position is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36, Florida Administrative Code. The Officer assigned to this position has responsibility for supervising Correctional Officers and Correctional Officer Sergeants assigned to any security post on any of the established shifts. This position serves as the initial commander during emergency situations and functions as facility manager during non-administrative hours. Duties include planning, organizing, and coordinating shift activities, delegating assignments, managing leave, ensuring accurate attendance and leave reports, and ensuring proper security coverage. The role involves staff counseling, performance evaluations, and potentially disciplinary actions. The Lieutenant supervises contraband searches, inspects buildings and grounds for security and sanitation, and coordinates training. They are authorized to supervise body cavity searches and non-emergency use of force. Key responsibilities also include supervising inmates, managing housing areas, enforcing rules, transporting inmates, conducting head counts, and maintaining custody. The position requires performing crisis intervention, including restraining violent inmates, defending against attacks, preventing escapes, and providing emergency assistance during disasters. It also involves conducting inspections and surveillance of the physical plant and attending mandatory training.
