About The Position
This position is located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution in Halifax County, NC. The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!
Requirements
- High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of correctional experience, one of which must have been at the supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Responsibilities
- Assisting the Correctional Housing Unit Manager II in the management and operation of an institutional housing unit within a medium and minimum custody prison facility.
- Management of a medium and minimum custody facility.
- Supervision and scheduling of Correctional Sergeants to include providing guidance, instruction, and assistance to the Correctional Sergeants who are the first line of supervision for correctional staff.
- Implementation and monitoring of the unit case management system which entails providing individual counseling, participating in group sessions, and maintaining reports relating to the inmate's progress through the institution.
- Serving on a variety of institutional classification committees
- Conducting internal investigations regarding inmate disciplinary and grievance responses
- Complete custody reviews
- Inmate job assignments
- Responding to emergency situations within the unit.
- In the absence of Correctional Housing Unit Manager II assumes responsibility for the overall management of the unit.
