About The Position

This is a REPOST. Previous applicants are still under consideration and do not need to reapply. This position is located at Randolph Correctional Center in Asheboro, NC. This facility houses approximately 226 minimum custody males. This posting is for multiple vacancies: positions 60072989 & 60072990. Reporting to the Programs Supervisor. Employees in this class carry a caseload of inmates, which involves supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering and following up on inmate questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee. Employees also assist in major dynamic programs or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of inmates, such as inmate work assignments, work release, education, or recreation, as well as transition planning and coordinating. Employees in this class plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented knowledge of supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Gathering and evaluating information concerning an individual’s past experience.
  • Developing, implementing, coordinating, and supervising programs using Division of Prisons Policies and Procedures.
  • Making clear and concise reports and comminating verbally.
  • Implementing and managing correctional programs.
  • Completing written reports and forms which accurately reflect information reviewed from various sources.
  • Coordinating transfer of offenders.
  • Working some evening hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Completing special projects and/or other duties as assigned by the Associate Warden of Programs and/or the Warden.
  • Working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically volent and /or verbally abusive.
  • Defending oneself against attack by violent persons.
