About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting to a Correctional Programs Supervisor at a multi-custody female correctional facility, this position is primarily responsible for all aspects concerning a caseload of offenders. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; OR High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Providing supportive counseling to offenders.
  • Answering and following up on offender questions and problems.
  • Making recommendations to the classification committee.
  • Conducting assessments and developing case plans.
  • Assisting in major dynamic programs or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders (such as offender work assignments, work release, education, or recreation; as well as transition planning and coordinating).
  • Coordinating transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community.
