The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! This Correction Training Coordinator I position is assigned to the Western Foothills Training Center in Valdese, NC (Burke County). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Writing course plans and objectives, reviewing, revising, and developing lesson plans and training materials. - Delivering instruction independently and instructing as a member of an instructional team in accordance with approved training materials and methodology. - Researching materials for course development, developing courses strategies and objectives, modifying course content, and participating in evaluation of courses. Work is performed both independently and as a member of a training team with minimum supervision. This position reports to a Correction Training Instructor and is subject to review and evaluation through reports, student feedback, and stakeholders. Employees in this position will be required to obtain additional instructional certifications as required. Weekend hours, extended hours, overnight travel, extended travel and overnight stays at remote locations for extended periods of up to eight weeks are required. Employees in this position will be required to obtain additional instructional certifications as required. The Office of Staff Development and Training (OSDT) is the cornerstone of training for the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction workforce. Our team of 101 instructors and support personnel delivers basic training to correction and probation/parole officers, as well as specialized classes, such as firearms, leadership, and instructor training. With our expertise, we manage the delivery of annual in-service training for over 16,000 certified employees. The OSDT team is committed to addressing the specialized training needs of all staff, from top management officials to first-line employees. With over 500 job classifications requiring mandated training, our comprehensive training program is designed to meet the needs of the agency.
