In short, the same qualities we look for in our people. We are looking for a Corporate Safety & Health Manager to join the Kaiser Aluminum team!  Base salary is $130,000 to $170,000.   This position is remote and travel approximately 50% of the time and will be located near a major airport in one of the following states: Tennessee, Indiana, Washington, Michigan, Ohio, California, Virginia, Alabama or Arizona.   Kaiser Aluminum is a leading producer of semi-fabricated aluminum products that supports the aerospace, F&B, automotive, and general engineering markets. The Corporate Safety and Health team has the responsibility of Safety and Health of approximately 4,000 employees across North America, as well as the direct liaison for Risk Management/Insurance for the Corporation. Our safety management system is rooted in Plan-Do-Check-Act. Strategic Safety and Health Plans (SMART) are developed by sites on the triennial basis but worked through annually, this is our “Plan” step. Road Maps are our overarching corporate safety and health guidelines that the plants use to execute the “DO” step within our system. Audits, Observations, and Investigations complete the “Check” step within our system by ensuring we adhere to the items within our road maps. Corrective action tracking and data trending completes the “Act” step. These elements guide us back to our continuous improvement cycle to SMART planning and development in which these elements are used to identify gaps and opportunities for further improvement.   The Corporate Safety and Health Manager will support and guide the 13 North American Aluminum Rolling and Extrusion locations along their safety journey. This guidance will come in the form of training support, policy updates and auditing. Promoting the elimination of SIF related events through P-D-C-A is key to our safety management system. This position reports to the Director, Corporate Safety and Health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field required.
  • At least five (5) years of occupational health and safety experience in heavy manufacturing environment required; Metals Industry Preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of industry applicable consensus standards and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct training.
  • Knowledge of Aluminum Molten Metal (DC and/or EMC), Horizontal Hydraulic Extrusion Press Systems, Combustible Dust, and Combustion Systems
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds at times.
  • Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspections.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during audits of processes
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 70% (primarily by air) to various sites across North America

Nice To Haves

  • A board certification is preferred (CSP, CIH, ASP, FSE, etc.)
  • Metals Industry Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety road maps and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Ensures completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting by the sites.
  • Provides technical and administrative support to the organization.
  • Stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
  • Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, incidents, and health problems.
  • Conducts employee training on applicable safety standards.
  • Reviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with internal road maps and consensus standards.
  • Review incident reports and investigation quality for opportunities to improve.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
