About The Position

We are currently accepting applications for a Corporate Counsel (Mid-Level Employment Law Specialist) to join our team in Ashburn, Virginia. This is a part-time, fully in-person opportunity for an experienced employment attorney seeking meaningful, hands-on work advising business leaders and supporting federal contracting clients. This role will focus primarily on employment law counseling, compliance guidance, and supporting a wide range of internal and client-related legal matters. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with leadership and business stakeholders. The Corporate Counsel will advise management and internal teams on federal and state employment law matters. Responsibilities include counseling on employment-related questions arising from our federal contracting clients, drafting employment policies and documents, delivering training, and assisting with administrative agency matters. This role will also support general business legal needs, including contract review, compliance guidance, and coordination with outside counsel when necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active Virginia bar license (or admission elsewhere with ability to obtain Virginia admission)
  • Five to eight years of employment law experience, either in-house or at a law firm
  • Demonstrated experience advising business leaders on employment law matters, including: o FLSA o FMLA o ADA o ADEA o WARN o Title VII o OSHA
  • Experience handling administrative matters with agencies such as: o EEOC o OFCCP o Department of Labor
  • Experience drafting and reviewing employment-related documents, including: o Employment agreements o Confidentiality agreements o NDAs o Separation agreements o Non-competition agreements o Employee handbooks and policies
  • Experience conducting or supporting internal investigations and advising management
  • Strong ability to review, interpret, and recommend improvements to company policies and compliance programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience advising federal contractors
  • Familiarity with Certified Professional Employer Organizations (PEO)
  • Knowledge of Service Contract Act requirements
  • Experience applying intersecting leave laws (FMLA, ADA, USERRA, state paid leave laws, etc.)
  • Experience defending employment-related claims or supporting litigation
  • Arbitration experience
  • Experience advising on California employment laws
  • ERISA benefit plan experience
  • Prior experience working both in a law firm and in-house setting
  • Experience managing EPLI claims or advising on EPLI coverage
  • Active bar license in multiple D.C. region jurisdictions (Virginia, Maryland, D.C.)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with leadership and business teams
  • Strategic thinker with strong risk-assessment capabilities
  • Ability to operate independently in a part-time environment
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical business guidance

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice to leadership and internal stakeholders on federal and state employment law matters
  • Advise on labor and employment issues affecting federal contracting clients
  • Draft and review employment-related policies, agreements, and compliance documentation
  • Develop and deliver employment law-related training and guidance
  • Handle administrative charges filed with the EEOC and corresponding state agencies
  • Conduct or support internal employment-related investigations
  • Advise management on employee relations and disciplinary matters
  • Review and assist with client contracts and commercial agreements
  • Provide guidance on SaaS agreements, commercial lease matters, insurance issues, and general corporate legal questions
  • Respond to subpoenas, demand letters, and assist with litigation management
  • Coordinate with outside counsel as needed
