About The Position

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is a large federally qualified health center (FQHC) with over 55 years of experience providing caring, affordable, high-quality health care and supportive services to uninsured, low-income, and medically underserved persons across San Diego County. Operating more than 90 sites, FHCSD serves over 227,000 patients annually with a wide range of services including primary care, behavioral health, dental, vision, and specialty services. FHCSD is seeking a Core Faculty Physician for its new community-based Psychiatry Residency Program, located in the City Heights neighborhood of San Diego. This program aims to recruit, train, and retain diverse psychiatry physicians passionate about serving the underserved, and this role is crucial for expanding access to quality mental health care in the local community.

Requirements

  • Current certification in the specialty by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), or specialty qualifications that are acceptable to the Review Committee
  • Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS)
  • Active DEA license
  • Graduate from an accredited school of medicine
  • Must possess current unrestricted license to practice in the State of California if applicable.
  • Must meet FHCSD driving requirements
  • 5 years of experience working in the field of psychiatry required
  • Minimum of 3 years faculty teaching experience with a psychiatry residency required

Nice To Haves

  • Academic leadership experience serving in assistant/associate or program director role preferred
  • Experience with underserved populations, as well as outpatient and inpatient psychiatry preferred

Responsibilities

  • Completes all required documentation accurately, timely and thoroughly in accordance with department standards and to comply with electronic medical record requirements, including medication reconciliation, finalizing notes, and clearing out personal pool.
  • Provides administrative support to the Residency program through curriculum design and evaluation, planning, clinical supervision, special projects, and program development.
  • Participate in program evaluation and clinical competency committees.
  • Serve on residency program committees as assigned
  • Provides direct patient care in Residency clinic.
  • Provides precepting and evaluation of the performance of residents.
  • Teach residents in the Residency program, through a variety of mediums, including lectures, seminars, conferences, and direct patient care in residency clinic.
  • Split time between educational, administrative, and clinical care
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings, committees, quality improvement activities, and peer review as needed.
  • Serve as a role model, mentor, and advisor to residents in the program.
  • Adhere to professional and ethical standards of conduct.
  • Participate in the selection, orientation, and evaluation of residents during NRMP recruitment
  • Support the Program Director (PD) and Associate Program Director (APD) in the implementation of policies and procedures consistent with institutional and program requirements
  • Assist with the incorporation and application of ACGME Milestones into evaluation tools
  • Participate in scholarship, preferably in collaboration with residents
  • Actively participate in faculty development initiatives
  • Serve as a course director in Residency program required and elective rotations, if needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
