About The Position

The Coordinator of Pre-College STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Outreach and Recruitment Initiatives reports directly to the Dean of the School of Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) and will be responsible for the coordination of STEM outreach programs and recruitment initiatives. This position will serve as the primary point of contact and liaison between students, teachers, SET faculty, SET administrators, the campus community, parents and the local community. The coordinator's efforts should be organized such that 75% of their time is focused on recruitment (high school), and the remaining 25%-time effort on outreach targeting middle and elementary school students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required. Candidates with a STEM educational background and professional experience are preferred.
  • Knowledge of STEM academic disciplines and the principles, practices and applications of public relations, public affairs, media relations and marketing.
  • Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance.
  • Must be able to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance; or have a self-reliant source of transportation to conduct business on a daily basis.
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Teams, Publisher, and PowerPoint) and experience with virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; ability to work effectively with communities across the university.
  • Must have high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality; ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; display solid problem solving and interpersonal skills; work well independently and as part of a team; professional demeanor, appearance and strong work ethic required.
  • Must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Represents SET and our STEM programs at various high school fairs, community college events, campus activities, and regional STEM-focused events/initiatives, this may include occasional evening and weekend commitments.
  • Ensures SET and the University are appropriately visibly and effectively engaged in STEM recruitment efforts that align with Enrollment Management and SET strategic goals.
  • Partners with key campus offices (University Communications, Residence Life, Admission, Alumni Affairs, Financial Assistance, Student Life and University Ministry) to collaborate and execute initiatives that support high yield enrollment and to comply with university policies and guidelines.
  • Promotes and maintains current knowledge of University's academic, recreational, social, extra-curricular, and financial aid and scholarship programs, and communicates this information to prospective students and their parents.
  • Serves as a college liaison and STEM Outreach, when needed, for on/off campus partners and organizations. Represents the Dean at STEM initiative meetings as needed.
  • Delivers presentations to individuals and groups of prospective students and families, promoting SET programs and the University experience.
  • Collaborates with Enrollment Management and University Communications to assist in delivering personalized SET campus visits, individual student and group visits, and engagement opportunities for prospective students, counselors, and educators.
  • Designs, plans, and contributes to aspects of SET outreach programs, summer camps and STEM initiatives in coordination with SET faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Collaborates closely with middle and elementary schools to support the building of recruitment pipelines in STEM fields to drive qualified students to the various undergraduate education programs offered by SET at StMU.
  • Monitors and reports on SET outreach programs.
  • Create innovative and interactive STEM content that captivates the interest of diverse audiences and encourages participation and track outcomes of outreach efforts.
  • Develops and maintains a database of contacts with middle and high schools, students, teachers, counselors, school administrators, area industry, funding agencies, economic development agencies, and other constituents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
