Requirements

  • Master’s degree and endorsements for level of assignment.
  • South Dakota certification or licensure.
  • Five years’ successful teaching experience at the appropriate level.
  • Prior high school administration experience, instructional coach, or department head experience.
  • This position requires constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, hearing; intermittent keyboarding, repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers, sitting, speaking, writing, carrying, filing, indexing, opening, scheduling, standing, and walking is also required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Skills in human relations, leadership and conflict management.
  • Knowledge of curriculum at the appropriate level, best practices in education and effective schools research.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a computer for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • High level of organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of high school curriculum aligned with state standards, district priorities, and postsecondary readiness.
  • Coordinate the districtwide integration of artificial intelligence into curriculum, instruction, and assessment in alignment with district guidance, ethical standards, and instructional priorities.
  • Lead curriculum review studies; coordinate curriculum mapping, course sequencing, and assessments to ensure coherent learning progressions across departments.
  • Work with curriculum teams to select resources, instructional materials, and technology to support high-quality curriculum and instruction.
  • Monitor district curriculum implementation through classroom observations, meetings, and review of student achievement data.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for teachers, including analysis of student performance data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Provide leadership and support for curriculum across all secondary buildings, including Joe Foss and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
  • Support, supervise, and collaborate with Instructional Coaches to improve instructional practices.
  • Collaborate with Instructional Coaches to design and implement the New Hire Academy and provide ongoing support to new teachers.
  • Coordinate professional learning for teachers, administrators, and other district staff consistent with research on effective teaching, classroom management, and student engagement.
  • Assist with the placement and supervision of student teachers and coordinate with teacher preparation programs.
  • Oversee the district Advanced Placement (AP) Program, including supervision of building coordinators and monitoring of participation and exam performance to guide program improvement.
  • Oversee district online course programs to ensure quality and alignment with graduation requirements.
  • Manage dual credit and concurrent enrollment partnerships with postsecondary institutions, including articulation agreements, instructor credentialing, and student eligibility processes.
  • Collaborate with community partners and post-secondary institutions to develop and expand student pathways.
  • Serve as the district point of contact for all high school courses, including state course coding and assignment of graduation credit requirements.
  • Develop, update, and publish the High School Course Information Book and related online course materials.
  • Assist with registration processes by providing accurate course and graduation requirement information.
  • Work with the South Dakota Department of Education regarding waivers and alternative credit options toward high school graduation.
  • Ensure compliance with state, federal, and accreditation requirements related to graduation, assessment, and college credit programs.
  • Submit annual course updates to the NCAA Eligibility Center.
  • Manage documentation and course submissions to the South Dakota Board of Regents related to the SD Opportunity Scholarship.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise all aspects of the high school graduation ceremony, including logistics, timelines, staffing, and venue coordination for all district high schools.
  • Work closely with building principals and facilitate regular principal meetings focused on curriculum and instruction.
  • Collaborate with building administrators, counselors, special education, and student services to ensure equitable access to rigorous coursework and graduation pathways.
  • Collaborate regularly with the Assistant Superintendent and district coordinators to plan and align professional learning, review student achievement data, and address key instructional priorities.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among district departments, buildings, and grade levels.
  • Develop and manage multiple large program budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with instructional goals and district priorities.
  • Approve expenditures, monitor contracts and vendor services, and prepare budget projections and reports for district leadership.
  • Prepare reports and present program updates, budget information, and curriculum initiatives to the School Board and district leadership.
