About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Special Education and Early Intervention Services the Coordinator II of Section 504 and Home and Hospital Instruction will provide leadership to support the school system’s mission. The Coordinator II will have the primary responsibility for developing, implementing, and monitoring Section 504 Plans for the Wicomico County Public School System. The Coordinator II will also be responsible for the approval process and procedures related to the implementation of Home and Hospital services districtwide. This role involves close collaboration with medical professionals, school administrators, and instructional staff to ensure timely, and appropriate service delivery that aligns with state and federal regulations. The Coordinator II will monitor compliance, facilitate communication among stakeholders, and support the development of efficient systems for referral, approval, and instructional services.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in educational leadership with Administrator 1 endorsement.
  • Knowledge of the Section 504 process to include the appeal process for conflict resolution and/or Office of Civil Rights.
  • Demonstrated leadership in guiding diverse groups of people through problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional work relationships with other school officials and outside agencies.
  • Ability to effectively present and communicate through a variety of forums, including presentations, community forums and internal meetings.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to effectively manage multiple complex projects while communicating status and progress.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years of successful classroom experience as a special education teacher preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support services to administrators, school staff and central office personnel for 504 evaluations and the development and implementation of Section 504 plans.
  • Develop and implement professional learning for administrators and case managers to ensure all processes are compliant for the Section 504 process.
  • Facilitate and monitor the compliance of the evaluation, identification, and provision of services to students with disabilities under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Manage Section 504 data and disseminate data as requested.
  • Support families with Section 504 Plan concerns through providing information, investigating concerns, and resolving grievances.
  • Serve as a central office representative for Section 504 meetings at schools, as requested, as well as attends meetings, related to Section 504, with local and state agencies.
  • Oversees the approval process for Home and Hospital (HH) services, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations; Reviews medical documentation and confirms eligibility based on diagnosis and potential school accommodations.
  • Collaborate with medical professionals, school administrators, HH school Points of Contact (POCs), and families to develop and support instructional service plans.
  • Oversee HH teacher assignments, timelines, and service delivery ensuring accurate documentation and communication with families and staff.
  • Coordinate educational services for students placed in hospitals or treatment facilities, including placement communication and transition planning.
  • Provide training and guidance to HH teachers and school POCs on instructional expectations, documentation, and reintegration planning.
  • Maintain organized systems for records, data, and communication to support efficient operations and continuous improvement of HH and 504 services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and Early Intervention Services.
