About The Position

SUMMARY: Assists with coordination of the 504 referral and evaluation process. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned. Compliance Management: Serves as the primary point of contact for Section 504 compliance; maintains organized records and ensures all 504 plans are reviewed and updated annually. Evaluation Coordination: Facilitates the referral process for students suspected of having a disability; gathers and analyzes medical documentation, teacher reports, and standardized test data to determine eligibility. Plan Development: Leads 504 team meetings to design individualized "Accommodation Plans" that remove barriers to learning (e.g., extended time, physical environment changes, or nursing services). Technical Assistance: Provides guidance to classroom teachers and staff on how to implement specific accommodations and understands the legal nuances between Section 504 and the ADA. Advocacy & Communication: Acts as a liaison between parents and the school district to resolve concerns regarding 504 services and ensures parents are informed of their procedural safeguards. Monitoring & Fidelity: Conducts regular "fidelity checks" to ensure that the accommodations written in the legal document are being consistently provided in the classroom. Professional Development: Trains building staff on identifying students who may need 504 support and stays current on federal Office for Civil Rights (OCR) rulings and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education
  • Specific course work or experience related to special education and/or guidance/psychological examiner
