About The Position

Saint Patrick Catholic School is currently seeking a Part-Time light-fare Cook for the Dining Hall this Summer season. This is a 20-hour-per-week position, with hours from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Overview Founded in 2005, Saint Patrick Catholic School (Norfolk, Virginia) is an independent Catholic school with approximately 400 students in grades pre-kindergarten through eight. Boasting a vibrant and accomplished team of faculty and staff supporting the total formation of its students.

Requirements

  • 2 years of related cooking experience or training
  • Food Handlers Certification required
  • This role may have physical demands, including but not limited to lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and/or extended walking and standing.
  • This role may also require uniforms and/or the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a cook or in a related role
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of food preparation, various cooking methods, and food safety regulations, such as accurate food handling, sanitation, and storage
  • Knowledge of special dietary requirements
  • Demonstrate basic math and counting skills
  • Demonstrates good verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Cook and prepare a variety of light-fare menu items (cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, etc.) according to production guidelines and standardized recipes
  • Setting up workstations with all the needed ingredients and equipment
  • Prepare ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling food items
  • Safely uses a variety of utensils, including knives
  • Operate equipment such as ovens, fryers, stoves, steamers, slicers, choppers, mixers, dishwashers, and other food service and mechanical equipment
  • Bake, roast, steam, and use a variety of cooking methods for meat and other foods
  • Arrange, garnish, and portion food according to established guidelines
  • Properly store food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures, including accurate food safety and sanitation practices
  • Assist with serving during lunch service
  • Work with the Food Service Manager in estimating and ordering food supplies
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Director
