About The Position

This position supports the missions and operations of the Orange County Scouting America and the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center. The mission of The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center is to serve all youth of Orange County by providing quality outdoor educational programs that instill in them an appreciation of the outdoors and the environment, teach effective teamwork, instruct about the cultural history of Orange County, and provide access to the natural resources of the surrounding areas. The summer Camp Counselor will report to the Program and Area Directors at the IROEC. This role works with groups of up to 16 participants to manage and facilitate daily programs. They oversee the program and maintain a safe and secure environment for youth.

Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age.
  • Must be able to become certified in First Aid/CPR. (training provided once per season)
  • Attend training from June 15th – 19th.
  • Comfortable working variable shifts and in outdoor conditions.
  • Must pass a background check and complete required training (provided).
  • Ability to interact with participants from 6 - 17 years old.
  • Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a group of up to 16 campers and provide safe, fun, exciting camp experience.
  • Check in and greet families upon arrival.
  • Works with supervisors to resolve participant behavior problems.
  • Be a role model for campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Work as part of the IROEC team and use interpersonal communication techniques to ensure the success of the program and positive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
