About The Position

The Summer Camp Junior Cook plays a vital role in creating a safe, enjoyable, and nourishing experience for campers and staff at Camp Baker. By preparing meals-including those that meet special dietary needs-this position directly supports the health, comfort, and well-being of individuals participating in SOAR365's summer programs. Beyond the kitchen, this role helps foster an inclusive and supportive environment where campers can thrive, making it an essential part of delivering on SOAR365's mission to empower individuals of all abilities to live full and meaningful lives. Requirements

  • comfortable working with both adults and children in a group setting
  • demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with a small kitchen team
  • able to follow and enforce all safety, sanitation, and camp policies, with training provided as needed
  • requires physical stamina, including the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, as well as bend, reach, and remain active throughout the day
  • able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old
  • minimum of two years of kitchen experience

Responsibilities

  • preparing and serving daily meals for campers and staff, including accommodating special dietary needs
  • maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen in compliance with all health and safety regulations
  • operating kitchen equipment
  • managing dishwashing
  • restocking supplies
  • assisting with inventory and food deliveries
  • completing opening and closing procedures
  • participating in required trainings
  • adhering to all organizational policies and standards
  • providing operational support by helping oversee kitchen functions, assisting with menu preparation, and supporting camper engagement activities as needed (in the absence of the Kitchen Manager)
