About The Position

Hiring a Cook/ORR | Prep Cook/ORR to join our team. Abraxas Academy is located minutes off of Exit 298 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Berks County and provides detention and treatment services for court committed youth. Our diversified array of services includes alternative education, outpatient counseling, in-home services, shelter, detention, residential treatment and re-entry/transition services. Requirements

  • Must be available to work weekends!
  • Must pass a drug test and both federal and state background checks!
  • High school diploma and one (1) year prior experience in food preparation obtained in commercial, military, or institutional setting strongly preferred.
  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Criminal clearances (Act 33 and 34, specific State & child clearances and, if necessary, FBI).
  • Must pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including, but not limited to drug related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors.
  • Non-communicable diseases physical exam.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department

Responsibilities

  • Help prepare large quantities of a variety of food including meats, fish, poultry, gravies, cereals, soups, vegetables and other foods.
  • Cook food as directed in the operational menu plan for the facility food service operation.
  • Follow recipes and maintain accurate production records.
  • Prepare meals according to scheduling and sanitation standards.
  • Ensure the quality assurance of all foods and supplies.
