Overview University Place , a part of Franciscan Ministries, is a vibrant senior living community in West Lafayette, Indiana looking for Cooks to add to our team! University Place is a continuing care retirement community (CCRC), offering a variety of senior lifestyle options including independent living, assisted living, memory support assisted living and skilled nursing/long-term care. Additionally, the onsite rehabilitation clinic offers inpatient and outpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapies, and state-of-the-art programs designed to enhance the quality of life for residents and patients in the local community. Position Summary In this role, you will be responsible for storing, cooking, and helping to serve nutritious high quality food and a superb dining experience to residents at the community.

Requirements

  • Education : High School Diploma/GED
  • Licenses/Certifications: ServSafe certification
  • Experience : 1+ years of cooking experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepares food daily as outlined on the menus; altering or adapting recipes to accommodate special dietary needs of residents or to improve recipes.
  • Ensures attractive presentation of food on the plate before serving.
  • Coordinates and participates in serving food, including monitoring portion control to meet residents’ requests and minimize waste.
  • Maintains an accurate record of chargeable meals (resident, guest and catered) and submits record to the office by the designated date each month.
  • Assists with menu planning; reviews and adjusts menus with Dietary Manager to accommodate foods in season, vendor sale prices, special events and holidays.
  • Assists in identifying food and supplies needed for the next week’s menus and reports to the Dietary Manager.
  • Prepares meats for storage and portion control upon delivery; ensures proper handling, storage and labeling of all delivered foods and ingredients.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, safe and sanitary kitchen environment.
  • Ensures compliance with any and all regulations.
  • Assists in training other kitchen staff in food preparation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures and any updates.
