About The Position

Under the supervision of the Food Service Manager and Building Administrator, the Cook #2 will direct and oversee the preparation, serving, and cleanup of all meals. This hands-on position is responsible for taking a lead position and covering for the Food Service Manager in their absence.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a commercial kitchen
  • Ability to prepare nutritious and appealing meals to residents
  • Ability to operate independently in the Cook’s absence
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational ability, time management and interpersonal skills
  • Team focused and ability to work effectively with others as part of a team
  • Desire or interest in working and supporting an aging population
  • High school diploma or General equivalency diploma required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of cooking experience in a commercial kitchen(s) serving twenty persons or more.
  • Up to date food handler's certification from the City of New York.
  • Minimum of 18 Months experience of supervision and managerial responsibility.
  • Experience with food forecasting, inventory, and ordering from vendors required.
  • Must be able to lift 25+ lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all applicable state and city regulations regarding food storage, food preparation, and maintenance of kitchen, kitchen equipment, food storage room, and dining room.
  • Partner with Food Service Manager to ensure compliance with all Department of health and mental hygiene (DOHMH) regulations. Food temperatures, proper food storage and nutritional guidelines.
  • Assist the Food Service Manager to plan nutritious and appetizing meals, according to applicable regulations and individual special diets.
  • Maintain an up-to-date file of kitchen evaluated recipes which correlate to the planned menus.
  • Maintain 6 months of dated menus with any substitutions noted
  • Track copies of all food invoices.
  • In the absence of the Food Service Manager, order all food and kitchen supplies through approved vendors and suppliers. The Food service manager will provide food vendor contacts and information.
  • In conjunction with the Food Service Manager maintain sufficient inventory of food and utensils. Assure that the three-day emergency meal plan food supply is available.
  • Assist the Food Service Manager prepare and/or supervise the preparation of meals and arrange appetizing and complete presentation of standard meal portions as required by DOH.
  • Maintain up-to-date certificate of food handling from the City of New York.
  • Must possess leadership and conflict resolution skills.
  • Collaborate as a member of a team to establish and maintain elevated level of care and respect for and communication with residents.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members.
  • Share information about resident progress, needs, and concerns with the appropriate staff to address concerns.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions and conferences as required by WSFSSH for enhancement of job skills.
  • Implement emergency procedures, as necessary. Administrator will provide training.
  • Submit all required reports in a complete and timely manner.
  • Cover for the Food Service Manager in his/her absence.
  • Receive food and cleaning supply deliveries.
