About The Position

Join Our Team at Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant! We’re currently seeking a dedicated Full-Time Prep Cook to become part of our caring and mission-driven community. This position will be Monday-Friday, 11:30am-7:30pm with every other weekend rotation. The Cook I is responsible for preparing and cooking meals in accordance with standardized recipes and dietary requirements while ensuring food safety, cleanliness, and quality standards are consistently met. This role supports daily kitchen operations, collaborates with staff, and contributes to a positive dining experience for residents and guests. What You’ll Do as an LVMG Cook I: Prepare and cook food items by following basic recipes and production guidelines, including seasoning, tasting, carving, and serving menu items. Operate kitchen equipment and utensils to measure, mix, cut, peel, shred, and trim ingredients, including fruits, vegetables, meats, poultry, and fish. Estimate food quantities, review menus, maintain production records, and requisition necessary supplies to meet daily food service needs. Accommodate special dietary requirements and prepare meals to order, following verbal or written instructions as needed. Receive and manage inventory, lifting and moving food supplies as required. Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of workstations and equipment in compliance with regulatory and food safety standards. Maintain all required documentation, including temperature logs, production records, and cleaning checklists. Attend and participate in training, including ServSafe Food Handler certification (to be completed within 90 days of hire), and ongoing education opportunities. Collaborate effectively with interdepartmental staff to ensure consistent, high-quality food service. Contribute to a positive, warm, and respectful environment for residents and team members. Serve on internal or external committees as assigned and follow all dietary procedures per facility policy. Perform additional duties as assigned. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of work-related experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels, including residents, staff, families, external vendors/authorities, and the public.
  • Strong attention to detail in writing, proofreading, managing priorities, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating a cooperative, respectful, and compassionate approach to colleagues and resident care.
  • Skilled in the use of standard office equipment and technology.
  • Maintains professionalism, composure, and a positive attitude when managing challenging situations.
  • Physically able to move throughout the workday and lift items up to 50 pounds using safe handling practices.
  • May be necessary to assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations.
  • Complies with organizational health and safety requirements, including vaccination policies or valid exemptions.
