About The Position

In this role your work will be of a technical nature with decisions made within the limits of general practices, policies and standards meeting required safety guidelines. Your work will involve complex manufacturing problems including the need to troubleshoot and follow issues to resolve. Manage a team responsible for PLC, HMI, Robotics test control systems. You will be responsible to lead the Controls Engineering team for equipment related to the manufacturing process. Your responsibility will involve training team members and assigning work to the team as necessary to manage deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or its equivalent in a related technical field, preferably with a minimum of 5+ years of experience in automation controls.
  • Minimum of 5 yrs of Manufacturing leadership experience
  • Position is on 1st shift, may need to rotate to meet business needs
  • May work OT and weekends
  • All Required Safety Training under GWSS
  • All required Global Manufacturing System (GMS) Training
  • Experience working with and troubleshooting robotics / controls systems, preferably Fanuc robotics, ControlLogix PLCs and plant application controls and automation
  • Demonstrated technical project management experience
  • Advanced Control Logix PLC programming
  • Experience with Variable Frequency Drives and HMIs
  • Knowledge of Automotive Assembly application and operations
  • Experience working in a unionized manufacturing operation
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple issues in a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex issues
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, AutoCAD, Maximo, Rockwell and other technical software
  • Completion of all required safety and maintenance training
  • Understanding of the Business Plan Deployment (BPD) process
  • Experience using the Maximo System
  • Knowledge of the Throughput Improvement Process (TIP)

Responsibilities

  • Manage team of Control Engineers responsible for Body shop department.
  • Provide technical/engineering support to assist production and maintenance with troubleshooting equipment/process failures and with identifying effective follow-up countermeasures
  • Trains, develops, selects, and evaluates Control Engineering employees.
  • Assists in analyzing and solving complex manufacturing problems.
  • Manage controls-related electrical projects including installation of new or replacement equipment, continuous improvement initiatives, and periodic repair and refurbishment.
  • Participate in functional area plant meetings to represent Manufacturing Engineering and assist in improving the plant’s performance.
  • Provide daily support of production operations with focus on personnel and equipment safety, process quality and uptime with a focus on automation and controls
  • Coordinate with departmental tech support engineers and HQ Vehicle Systems engineers on new model process and equipment planning, including model changes, throughput improvements, sourcing, etc.
  • Enforce safe work practices as the highest priority and implement objectives for improved ergonomics, health/safety.
  • Maintain good working relationships with peers, represented & non-represented employees.
  • Provide input into the establishment of Manufacturing Engineering plant budget, NPP funding forecasts, and appropriation request estimates.
  • Maintain current knowledge in fields of expertise.
  • Update management on current status and emerging trends of areas of expertise as relating to equipment standards, legislative requirements, GM Requirements, etc.
  • Identify technical training and knowledge transfer opportunities with other Controls Engineers, Interns, and Maintenance Associates
