About The Position

S&L Industrial is a pavement marking and line striping company working on highways, roadways, and parking lots across multiple regions. We take pride in doing solid, reliable work and supporting our teams in the field with strong operational and financial backing. Our local teams work closely with our corporate office in Omaha, NE. We're looking for a Controller to join our team in either Billings, MT or Cowley, WY. This is a hands-on role where you'll be responsible for keeping the financial side of the business running smoothly-especially when it comes to month-end close and reporting. You'll be working with both the local team and our corporate office, and you'll need to be comfortable jumping in where needed, whether that's reviewing entries, helping troubleshoot issues, or supporting other accounting functions. There may be occasional travel to and from offices within MT and WY. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • At least 5 years of accounting experience (public accounting or general ledger experience is helpful)
  • Solid understanding of GAAP
  • Someone who pays attention to the details and takes ownership of their work
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities without losing track of deadlines
  • Good communicator who can work across teams

Nice To Haves

  • Construction or project-based industry experience is a plus
  • Experience with an ERP system (COINS is a bonus)

Responsibilities

  • Own the month-end close process and make sure it gets done accurately and on time
  • Prepare and review journal entries and general ledger activity
  • Handle account reconciliations (bank accounts, payroll, A/R, A/P, etc.)
  • Review accounts payable activity to ensure proper coding and tax handling
  • Help produce monthly financial reports and explain results as needed
  • Support budgeting and forecasting efforts
  • Track capital spending and compare it to budget
  • Step in to support A/P, A/R, and payroll when needed
  • Pull together reports and analysis for leadership
  • File required tax forms at the federal, state, and local level
  • Assist with audits, acquisitions, and process improvements
  • Work with operations and accounting teams to improve reporting and visibility
