About The Position

Cox Consulting has been exclusively retained by a successful, expanding privately-owned company to recruit a Controller. This remote position offers flexibility, with the expectation of attending monthly or bimonthly in-person meetings held in Austin, Houston, or near College Station. Candidates must be able to drive to these locations for meetings. Position Overview As Controller, you will report directly to the CEO and be responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the organization. This role requires a hands-on approach, balancing both tactical and strategic responsibilities. Your expertise will contribute to financial integrity and support critical decisions regarding the company’s gross margin. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA strongly preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in for-profit entities, preferably in startups or owner-managed companies
  • Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Proven experience managing people

Responsibilities

  • Oversee financial operations for multiple entities
  • Drive month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes with accountability
  • Complete core accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and revenue recognition
  • Maintain and enhance financial controls, policies, and procedures
  • Manage banking relationships and align financial activities with credit and treasury strategies
  • Prepare Personal Financial Statements for the owner as required by banking agreements
  • Manage loan processes and documentation
  • Deliver regular financial reports, key performance indicators (KPIs), and dashboards to communicate performance and risks
  • Support the CEO with financial modeling, forecasting, and scenario planning
  • Assist with company audits and tax preparation by working with external providers
  • Serve as a strategic partner to leadership, providing insights on financial trends and opportunities
