About The Position

Controller ServiceMaster by McCann- Multilocation Business, Headquartered in Defiance, OH Why Join Us? Here, your work truly matters: every day, we get to help people in their time of need—whether it's restoring a flooded home after a storm, getting a family back into their smoke/fire-damaged house, or helping a business reopen quickly after disaster strikes. Few roles let you support both financial excellence and meaningful, life-changing service to your clients and community. Add in a faith-friendly culture where people genuinely care, opportunities to grow alongside a tight-knit team, and the occasional post-storm pizza party (because teamwork tastes better with cheese), and you've got a place where purpose and hard work come together. About ServiceMaster by McCann ServiceMaster by McCann is a family-owned disaster restoration and commercial cleaning organization, proudly serving clients in their time of need since 1969. We are NW Ohio and NE Indiana’s leading restoration organization specializing in servicing the insurance industry and tackling the needs of our commercial/industrial clients with large and sometimes complex projects. Backed by ServiceMaster's 57+ years of expertise, our 130+ team members deliver certified, high-touch solutions that get clients back on their feet fast (and keep insurance professionals smiling). Our Core Values We don't just talk values—we live them: Honor God in all we do Help our team develop Build client relationships Grow profitably If these resonate (and you're ready to work hard while keeping faith and fun in the mix), you're in the right place. Position Summary: We're on the hunt for a Controller who's equal parts numbers ninja and hands-on hustler. You'll steer our financial ship with precision, deliver insights that fuel smart decisions, and help us scale profitably—all while embracing our Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) basics (think Scorecards, Rocks, and IDS meetings without the jargon overload). Bonus: a serious work ethic is non-negotiable. In our world,

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s/Associates in accounting, Finance, or similar (CPA/CMA? You're basically a unicorn—welcome). We value experience and work ethic over formal degrees so if you think you’re a good fit, give it a try.
  • 5+ years in progressive financial leadership, ideally in service/project-based businesses (restoration, construction, or cleaning experience = major bonus points).
  • Basic working knowledge of EOS (you get the big ideas: traction tools, meeting rhythms, accountability without the eye rolls).
  • Must love hard work—comfortable diving into details during crunch times, storm-season overtime, or whenever the business needs you (no clock-watchers need apply).
  • Excel wizardry, solid accounting software chops (QuickBooks, Sage, etc.), and the ability to turn data into stories leadership actually wants to hear.
  • Unwavering integrity, faith-aligned values, and a genuine passion for team growth and profitable client wins.
  • Strong communicator who can explain complex finances without putting people to sleep.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full accounting suite: GL, AP/AR, payroll, budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close faster than a restoration crew dries a basement.
  • Drive cash flow mastery, banking smarts, tax compliance, audits, and insurance-claim financial tracking (because claims paperwork never sleeps).
  • Produce crisp financial statements, variance reports, KPIs, and EOS-friendly dashboards that make all Level 10 Meetings productive (and occasionally entertaining).
  • Manage our Centralized Ops Team—the internal support squad that keeps our production heroes humming by handling facilities maintenance, asset management, resource allocation, and all the behind-the-scenes needs so our field teams can focus on crushing it for clients (think: making sure trucks are fueled, tools are stocked, and warehouses are ready for action—no small feat in a multilocation operation!).
  • Mentor and develop the finance team (and support Centralized Ops growth)—living our "help our team develop" value like it's your personal mission.
  • Team up with ops on job costing, project profitability, cost controls, and growth plays that keep us expanding smartly.
  • Champion GAAP compliance, strong controls, and ethical practices that align with honoring God in every decision.
  • Bring proactive ideas to strategic planning, helping us grow profitably while building those rock-solid client relationships.
