Job Summary The Hospital Controller is responsible for leading the hospital's financial operations including accounting, payroll, accounts payable, budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls. This role ensures that financial practices adhere to GAAP and all applicable regulatory standards. The Controller provides financial insights to leadership to support operational goals, regulatory compliance, and strategic initiatives. Essential Functions Directs all accounting operations, including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, fixed assets, and financial reporting Prepares and analyzes monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports Coordinates annual audit processes and third-party cost reports Prepares and maintains hospital operating and capital budgets, monitors variances, and recommends corrective actions Ensures accurate and timely month-end and year-end closings, reconciliations, and journal entries Develops and oversees internal control procedures to safeguard hospital assets Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement requirements Oversees cash flow projections, banking relationships, and financial forecasts Leads the financial aspects of strategic initiatives and special projects Supervises accounting staff; responsible for hiring, performance evaluations, and development Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, and healthcare reimbursement methodologies Proficiency in financial systems, reporting software, and Excel Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with leadership and regulatory agencies Commitment to ethical standards, confidentiality, and continuous improvement Primarily sedentary role with frequent use of computers and office equipment May require occasional standing, walking, lifting of materials up to 25 pounds Office environment with minimal exposure to biohazards or clinical conditions May involve extended work hours during audits or reporting cycles Education Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required CPA or Master’s degree preferred Licenses/Certifications Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred Experience Minimum five (5) years of hospital or healthcare financial management experience required Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred
