About The Position

This position will partner with the CFO and Executive Team to share operational oversight of Sunbeam’s fiscal management, including financial reporting, grant management, budget performance, and forecasting. The Controller will lead and develop a strong internal team to support Sunbeam’s finance and accounting initiatives. This position works closely with the CFO to align financial operations and planning, policies, and accounting practices with Sunbeam’s strategic organizational plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary owner of day today accounting operations and financial reporting, partnering closely with the CFO on strategic planning, budgeting, and executive level financial decision making
  • Work closely with Sunbeam’s leadership and executive teams to ensure financial information is reported accurately and timely for the purpose of achieving the strategic and operational goals and objectives of the organization.
  • Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; create financial reporting materials for all internal and external stakeholder groups, and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
  • Partner with the CFO to execute the annual budget and financial planning process. This includes working closely with senior leaders to develop departmental budgets.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate preparation and analysis of monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Manage all Accounting department functions, including A/P, A/R, Payroll, Grants Management and Reporting, Financial Management and Reporting, and Purchasing.
  • Manage the monthly close process, including timelines, reconciliations, variance analysis, and reporting deliverables.
  • Lead and directly supervise assigned Accounting team members, setting and upholding expectations for individual and team performance.
  • Oversee payroll processes and internal controls; provide backup support as needed while maintaining appropriate segregation of duties.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of Sunbeam’s operational and programmatic activities and interdependencies of supporting and collaborating with other internal administrative departments.
  • Ensure sufficient funds are available to meet ongoing operational and capital investment requirements.
  • Oversee the operations and systems of the finance and accounting departments, including organization wide training initiatives to support staff members utilizing these systems.
  • Provide Board of Directors support in partnership with CFO for the review of financials to include attendance at Business Operations Committee meetings as scheduled.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures with an emphasis on internal controls, process improvement and efficiencies, and compliance with uniform guidance and federal regulations.
  • Oversee and maintain contract management system for vendors, grants, and other organizational obligations.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with program staff, external partnerships, board members, grant agencies, and external auditors.
  • Attend ongoing training to maintain current and accurate knowledge base in order to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and uniform guidance regulations.
  • Assist in the planning, coordination and execution of the annual financial audit.
  • Assist in the compilation of information for Sunbeam’s and the Foundation’s annual 990.
  • Travel locally as required in the performance of responsibilities.
  • Perform other appropriate and related responsibilities as assigned.
