About The Position

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting functions of the organization, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance with GAAP and applicable healthcare regulatory requirements. This role leads the day-to-day accounting operations, manages the financial close and audit processes, and partners closely with the CFO, FP&A, and Revenue Cycle teams to support strategic decision-making. This position requires deep expertise in healthcare finance, with a strong emphasis on Behavioral Health (BH), Community Support (CS), and Enhanced Care Management (ECM) programs. The Controller must also possess a strong understanding of Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) to support accurate billing, collections, payer reconciliation, and reimbursement optimization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA required
  • 8–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership in healthcare or similarly complex environments
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and complex accounting topics
  • Demonstrated experience leading audits and managing internal controls
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP systems and Excel

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and preparation of consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for internal leadership, external stakeholders, funders, and regulators.
  • Manage multi-entity accounting and consolidations, including intercompany allocations, eliminations, and reconciliations.
  • Perform variance analysis and provide clear, actionable insights to the CFO and executive leadership.
  • Oversee the full accounting cycle across all entities and healthcare programs, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Cash Management.
  • Ensure consistent accounting treatment across departments, locations, legal entities, and healthcare service lines, including ECM, CS, and Behavioral Health programs.
  • Monitor departmental spending and funding sources to ensure alignment with approved budgets, contracts, and grant requirements.
  • Maintain strong fiscal controls and accountability across the organization.
  • Partner closely with Revenue Cycle, Billing, and Operations teams to ensure accurate billing, collections, and payer reconciliation.
  • Monitor and analyze claims submission, denial trends, reimbursement rates, and collections performance.
  • Ensure financial reporting appropriately reflects revenue recognition, accounts receivable, and collections for healthcare services.
  • Support improvements in revenue cycle processes to optimize cash flow and reduce aged receivables.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls to mitigate financial risk and ensure compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, healthcare regulatory requirements, tax regulations, and internal policies.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation; serve as the primary liaison for external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Maintain and update accounting policies and procedures in alignment with organizational growth and regulatory changes.
  • Partner with the CFO and FP&A on annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Monitor budget-to-actual results, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide financial analysis to support operational decisions, program growth, and strategic initiatives.
  • Support financial due diligence and accounting integration for mergers, acquisitions, and new healthcare program launches.
  • Assist with post-acquisition accounting alignment, reporting structures, and system integrations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and support professional development.
  • Partner with department leaders to strengthen financial literacy, budget accountability, and responsible spending.
  • Own and optimize ERP and financial reporting systems.
  • Drive automation and process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and data accuracy.
  • Lead or support financial system implementations and upgrades.
