About The Position

The Controller will be a hands-on leader responsible for managing and overseeing both Accounting and Operational Accounting (Payment processing and Client Remittances, Reconciliations, and other accounting operational functions) as well as internal controls for multiple entities with the support of 1 direct reports and 7 indirect reports. This individual should be a self-starter who enjoys a collaborative work style that is fast paced, challenging and engaging. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (remote) within a highly profitable $300M+ PE owned tech-driven legal services firm, focused on high volume litigation, who is looking to addon multiple acquisitions in the next two years.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial regulations
  • Strong leadership, communication and business acumen

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience of professional accounting experience including closing the books, financial statement preparation and analysis, preferably in a mid-to-large size company.
  • Experience with multi-company operations
  • M&A integration experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in NetSuite preferred but not required.
  • Big four audit experience is preferred, but not required
  • CPA is a bonus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Accounting: Oversee all accounting functions, including reconciling multiple cash accounts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, tax related matters, intercompany, credit card activities, payroll accounting, and general ledger operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
  • IOLTA Trust Accounts: Oversee all aspects of the client-related IOLTA Trust accounts and provide reporting to specific clients monthly
  • Operational Accounting: Oversee the high-volume processing of consumer payments, client remittance and other operational accounting process per client process and standards
  • Process Improvement: Develop, implement, and maintain a culture of process improvement and standardization around both Accounting and Operational Accounting to ensure compliance with US GAAP and client policies and procedures reporting.
  • Audit and Tax Coordination: Assist with the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and tax compliance resources to ensure accuracy in financial reporting and facilitate tax payments related to both Federal and State
  • Process Documentation:  Establish a process to routinely update all process documentation related to Accounting and Operational Accounting including finalization of remaining undocumented processes
  • M&A Activity: Assist in the accounting and treasury integrations related to M&A activity
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering professional development and operational efficiency. Team includes 1 direct report and 7 indirect reports.
  • Strategic Execution: Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, providing financial insights to support business growth and operational efficiency.
