About The Position

The Controller is responsible for the oversight of accounting operations and financial reporting for Campbell Oil Company, Cape Fear Transport, and related variable interest entities in accordance with GAAP standards, applicable rules, and regulations. The individual manages staff members with responsibility for general ledger, accounts payable, A/R posting, fixed assets, budgets, cash forecasts and taxes. The Controller ensures that Campbell Oil has the proper processes, procedures, and policies in place to support effective growth strategies. The controller will also coordinate the external CPA review at the end of the year. A detailed Job Description will be available when you begin employment. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA required.
  • At least five to seven years of supervisory experience and ten to fifteen years of progressive experience in finance and accounting with management experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting, financial reporting and generally accepted accounting principles and practices and risk management.
  • Solid experience in coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, accounts payable, general ledger, including restricted net assets, fixed assets, accounting for investments, and separate entity accounting.
  • Proven experience in the implementation of the best operational practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to interact with all levels of staff and to explain financial and accounting terms to non-accountants, and experience in effectively communicating data, including presentations to senior management and the Board.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Outstanding analytic and problem-solving skills for insightful data interpretation versus simple reporting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ERP system, Great Plains preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accounts, ledgers and reports comply with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare, review and approve financial statements and month-end entries and accounting report package for accuracy and timely distribution to management.
  • Monitor financial performance and keep the CFO informed of changes to the plan.
  • Assist in preparation of the board package and bank reporting requirements.
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipts, payments, fixed assets, and recording transactions.
  • Serve as primary point of contact with outside auditors to coordinate audit activity.
  • Recommend and implement improvements for accounting processes to increase efficiency and accuracy utilizing Great Plains, ADDS ERP software, Power BI.
  • Provide guidance to stakeholders on finance and accounting current best practices to support effective growth implementation.
  • Oversee 401(k) plan funding and reporting and complete the annual audit.
  • Support the annual budget process for each division within Campbell Oil.
  • Review and load budget into the system.
  • Ensure cost reductions, one-time costs, growth strategies and capital spending are incorporated into the plan.
  • Provide ad hoc and special financial analysis.
  • Monitor operating account balances and recommend necessary cash transfers among bank accounts and/or investment accounts.
  • Manage the daily receipt of cash and post that cash to Accounts Receivable
  • Develop, communicate, and update Finance and Accounting policies and procedures (Bad Debt, Capital expenditures, fixed asset disposals etc.)
  • Review and update Finance SOPs to clarify roles and responsibilities.
  • Coordinate with the CFO to ensure a balanced separation of duties.
  • Enforce established internal controls and recommend changes as necessary.
  • Supports CFO and operations team in line with Campbell Oil Company’s vision and culture.
  • Lead team members to develop skills and increase their knowledge base; clarify roles and responsibilities while building a supportive team environment.
  • Strengthen internal communications with staff; promote process efficiency and accuracy across all functions.
  • Assist the Credit Manager in the monthly/quarterly A/R review make recommendations for potential bad debt accruals.
