About The Position

As one of the highest performing open-admission charter networks in the city of New Orleans, InspireNOLA is working to inspire and transform an educational movement where students can develop the academic and personal skills necessary to be prepared for college, their community, and the world. InspireNOLA currently operates seven public charter schools and educates over 5,600 students, the majority of whom are African American and qualify for free or reduced lunch. The work of our team makes a profound and enduring contribution to the revitalization of New Orleans. Position Summary Controller manages key accounting functions for InspireNOLA. These functions include cash management, bank relationships, accounts payable, accounting system transaction entries, audit preparation, financial reporting, and other tasks that ensure timely and accurate completion of day-to-day, monthly, and annual accounting functions in accordance with InspireNOLA policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards. The Controller produces accurate and timely reports, implements improved processes and controls to mitigate risks, upholds compliance, and provides a high standard of customer service. The Controller will report to the Deputy Chief of Finance.

Requirements

  • A record of professional success in the accounting field
  • Ability to prioritize in the face of multiple competing demands
  • Excellent organizational skills and systems
  • Attention to detail and strong decision-making skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and financial information systems
  • Approximately five years of accounting experience
  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in accounting

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting operations, prepare accurate financial statements, review budgets, and coordinate audits to ensure timely, actionable insights.
  • Maintain internal controls, ensure regulatory compliance, and develop financial procedures to mitigate organizational risk.
  • Partner with leadership on financial planning, modeling, and analysis, support strategic initiatives, and provide clear financial materials for board and program alignment.
  • Supervise and develop finance staff, foster collaboration across departments, and ensure alignment o financial processes with organizational goals.
