About The Position

One of the oldest family-owned businesses in Tucson, Arizona, and largest automotive dealerships of its kind in the Western U.S., is seeking an experienced full-time Controller. The successful candidate will report directly to the Dealer Principal/General Manager, sit on a 14-member senior management committee, and have primary responsibility for overseeing and administering all financial operations for this company of more than 175 employees, including accounting, reporting, payroll, taxes, budgeting, audits, insurance, compliance, and management advice.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in dealership accounting (3-5+ years).
  • Strong understanding of dealership GAAP.
  • Proficiency with dealership management systems.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years controller experience, ideally in retail automotive
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Ability to assess and manage complex financial matters and coordinate with outside accounting services as appropriate
  • Ability to recommend, design, influence, and implement change
  • Knowledge of DMS systems and MS Office Suite and comfortable with learning other software systems
  • Ability to sort through information and resolve problems efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to communicate professionally verbally and in writing

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Paylocity or similar enterprise software system would be a plus

Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, monthly factory financial statements, and daily operating control reports for management, owners, and manufacturers.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Participate in developing financial forecasts and budgets, providing financial guidance for short and long-term goals.
  • Cash Management: Maintain effective cash flow systems, forecast funds, and manage investments for excess cash.
  • Asset Management: Oversee all assets of the company, financial, physical, and otherwise, including overseeing inventories, maintenance and repairs, and insurance.
  • Internal Controls: Establish and maintain strong internal controls, ensuring compliance with accounting policies and best practices and government regulations.
  • Departmental Support: Provide managers with detailed reports and analysis to improve revenue and reduce expenses, acting as a financial partner.
  • Staff Supervision: Oversee general office staff, including payroll, accounts payable (AP), and accounts receivable (AR), titling, and all other office functions.
  • Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations meet manufacturer standards, tax codes, and financial regulations. Consult and coordinate with outside accounting and legal services as appropriate.
  • Audits & Reconciliations: Coordinate annual audits, physical inventories, and reconcile general ledger accounts.
