About The Position

The Controller is a hands‑on, independent contributor who reports to the VP of Finance and oversees the organization's day‑to-day financial operations. This role manages the full accounting cycle-from processing accounts payable to preparing timely monthly financial statements-while maintaining accurate accounting records and ensuring the fiscal integrity of the organization. The Controller also supports grant compliance and contributes to sound financial stewardship across all programs.
The Controller performs both higher‑level financial oversight and routine bookkeeping tasks as needed. Requirements

• Christian with a commitment to and passion for the Mission of Restoring Hope and Changing Lives
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting
• Experience with full-cycle accounting, month-end close, and financial reporting
• Ability to perform financial analysis, budgeting, and cash flow forecasting
• Experience with grant accounting and compliance requirements
• Intermediate to advanced QuickBooks online
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound ethical judgment
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain financial information to non-financial staff
• Flexibility, adaptability, and willingness to perform both managerial and transactional tasks
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field

• Public accounting audit experience – nonprofit auditing preferred

Responsibilities

• Manage all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash disbursements.
• Prepare routine financial analyses to support program decisions, cost management and organizational planning. Identify trends, variances and risks to recommend corrective steps to VP when needed.
• Manage daily cash activity and maintain adequate liquidity to operational needs.
• Perform monthly closing procedures, reconcile bank, investment, and credit card accounts, and prepare accurate, timely financial statements and reports for leadership and the board.
• Track restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring expenditures align with grant budgets and preparing financial reports for grantors.
• Assist the VP of Finance in developing the annual budget and monitor cash flow to ensure the organization meets its short-term obligations. Support program managers in understanding grant budgets, allowable expenses and spending timelines, and provide guidance to prevent overspending or compliance issues.
• Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits.
• Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
• Assist in weekly payroll processing, grant and program class allocation, and journal entry recording.
• Collaborate with development staff to manage donor records in the Donor Perfect System, process revenue, and ensure timely, accurate stewardship.
• Step in to support financial staff during peak workloads, audits or absences.
• Assist in the daily direction of staff, particularly in the absence of the VP
