About The Position

The Controller oversees all accounting operations and ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. The role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, maintains strong internal controls, and supports organizational leadership through financial insight and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressive accounting or finance-related experience.
  • Experience with insurance billing.
  • Skills and abilities to function as back up to CFO. Ability to give direct feedback and lead with empathy are critical personality traits.
  • Non-profit accounting knowledge, including ASC 958 and ASC 606.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Office 365, Dynamics 365 Business Central, medical records databases, and other software programs preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to: define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Customer service orientation including the ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to interact with clients with sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics in the service population.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear including hearing within normal limits and close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to type, copy and perform other office skills.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to collaborate extensively with customers and clients.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekend hours as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including AP, AR, payroll and benefits, and the general ledger.
  • Supervise agency contract billings, medical insurance billings, and their respective reconciliations.
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and manage month-end close procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit-specific accounting standards (FASB ASC 958).
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and nonprofit regulatory requirements.
  • Support the CFO with annual audits and 990 preparations.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial information.
  • Maintain financial policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the accounting system (Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central)
  • Drive process improvements and financial automation.
  • Ensure data security and accurate financial system configurations.
  • Supervise accounting or finance staff.
  • Provide coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement within the CSI agency norms.
  • Work directly with agency leadership to ensure that timelines and processes are being carried out across the agency.
  • File monthly, quarterly, and annual government reports.
  • Serve as a knowledge base for accounting staff on daily accounting functions.
  • Complete special projects, as needed.
  • Completes other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Completes training necessary to perform position and necessary for professional growth.
  • Facilitates a team atmosphere by working in partnership with other agency staff and promotes a collaborative working environment.
  • Represents the agency and programs positively to clients, community organizations and the public.
