The Controller reports to the CFO and is involved in all aspects of accounting and financial reporting for the company. The position has management responsibility for at least one senior accountant. The Finance team at BAM is integral to the success of the company and is embedded in all aspects of the operations of the company. The Finance team partners with each of the company’s business units and functional leaders to derive the best financial outcomes possible.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred.
  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting and financial experience in the property & casualty insurance industry
  • Minimum of 5 years of management or supervisory experience.
  • Strong GAAP and statutory insurance accounting expertise including reinsurance assumed and ceded
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead GAAP, statutory, and management financial reporting activities.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, financial statements, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintain general ledger integrity, including fixed assets, accruals, and cash accounts.
  • Manage state statutory reporting and filings, including Schedule P and Schedule F.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
  • Lead Sarbanes-Oxley compliance testing and documentation.
  • Recommend and implement process and internal control improvements.
  • Analyze financial and operating results on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Develop forecasts and financial models to support senior management decision-making.
  • Support budgeting, long-range planning, and profitability analysis.
  • Assist with special projects and business expansion initiatives.
  • Supervise reinsurance accounting, including cession statements and cash settlements.
  • Prepare and review reinsurance recoverables and aging reports.
  • Oversee collateral administration, and credit risk evaluation.
  • Lead, mentor, other accounting team members
  • Establish workflow priorities and manage deadlines in collaboration with the CFO.
  • Communicate financial results, risks, and issues clearly to senior leadership.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
