About The Position

CleanChoice Energy, a national renewable energy company that empowers people and businesses to cut emissions and live cleaner, healthier lives, is seeking a Controller (fractional) to join our Solar Generation team. This is a unique opportunity to join a rapidly growing company with a mission to transform the U.S. electricity market by switching homes and businesses to 100% clean, pollution-free energy. We are seeking an experienced and versatile Controller to join our renewable energy company. As the Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, managing fund-level accounting, cash management, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing strategic financial guidance. This role encompasses the solar generation entity with a strong ability to coordinate effectively with our corporate accounting and FP&A departments. The ideal candidate will have expertise in managing audits, fund-level accounting, tax returns, and compliance in solar project finance environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 8 years of experience in financial management, accounting, and tax compliance, preferably in the renewable energy industry.
  • Strong understanding of partnership accounting, fund accounting principles, tax equity financing, project-level construction and permanent debt, and preferred equity investments.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and systems, financial ERPs, and portfolio management platforms, experience with Salesforce and Intacct preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing audits, tax returns, and financial reporting for complex investment structures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to build and develop a high-performing finance team.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the financial operations of the solar generation entity.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and investor capital account statements for generation business.
  • Manage the fund-level accounting processes for solar project portfolios, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, tax regulations, and fund-specific requirements.
  • Coordinate and manage the preparation of audits, facilitating smooth and efficient audit processes and addressing audit findings or inquiries.
  • Lead the preparation of tax returns, including corporate tax filings, partnership tax returns, and compliance with relevant tax laws.
  • Provide strategic financial analysis and guidance to senior management, supporting decision-making and optimizing financial performance for the solar generation business.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and support for project development, construction, procurement, and operations.
  • Manage cost certification process.
  • Develop and maintain financial models, forecasts, and performance metrics for the solar generation business.
  • Oversee construction draws and disbursements.
  • Assist in the conversion of construction debt into permanent debt and tax equity investment.
  • Conduct financial analysis, including cash flow projections, investment appraisals, and sensitivity analyses, to assess profitability and risks.
  • Monitor financial performance, identify trends, and provide recommendations for operational improvements and cost savings.
  • Support the evaluation of potential solar project acquisitions conducting due diligence, financial modeling, and risk assessments.
  • Manage compliance within loan facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, financial reporting standards, tax laws, and market rules applicable to the solar generation business.
  • Stay updated with industry regulations, accounting standards, tax legislation, and market rules, implementing necessary changes to ensure compliance.
  • Manage internal controls, risk assessments, and compliance procedures to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks.
  • Coordinate with legal, tax, and finance teams to manage contractual obligations, including power purchase agreements, debt covenants, tax equity agreements, and preferred equity arrangements.
