About the Role Controller This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join a company working on some of the most important challenges. The Controller will have the opportunity to build processes and systems at the ground level to create a world class finance department able to grow and scale as LanzaJet leads innovation in sustainable energy on a global basis. The Controller will be critical of the company’s ability to continue to deliver on its value proposition while simultaneously achieving maximum growth potential. The Controller will be charged with strengthening the accounting and controlling function to ensure a highly efficient, effective, and scalable infrastructure to support the company’s continuous growth. The Controller will partner with the team to manage the business' growth and profitability. The Controller will develop and support strategies to ensure strong controls, sound implementation of priorities and greater discipline while at the same time, supporting an effective company culture rooted in accountability and the highest level of focus on employees, the customer and the mission.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Foundation of public accounting is preferred with experience in oil & gas, engineering or construction a plus
  • CPA Certification
  • Minimum 10 years of accounting experience needed with substantial experience at a public company with knowledge of SOX and SEC compliance
  • GAAP accounting along with product costing experience working with inventory across varying cost structures.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all AP, AR, billing, job cost accounting, payroll, monthly financial reporting and other traditional accounting functions in accordance with GAAP
  • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards
  • Strong experience with cost accounting, lease accounting, inventory, revenue recognition
  • Comfortable with complex tax rules surrounding grants, deferrals and tax credits
  • Establish and maintain accounting policy and procedures to ensure best practice internal controls for a high growth company with sophisticated investors
  • Oversee annual financial audits, including acting as the primary liaison with auditors
  • Minimize federal, state and local tax liabilities through effective tax planning and research
  • Manage the company’s tax reporting and tax payments; responsible for various tax compliance items such as sales tax filings and property tax filings
  • Remain up-to-date on developments that may impact operations or reporting requirements
  • Recommend benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance
  • Effectively manage, supervise and grow the accounting function
  • Evaluate and manage credit risk with new customer relationships
  • Coordinate with senior business and finance leaders to develop a detailed annual budget for the company.
  • Provide quarterly (or as otherwise required) forecast updates comparing actuals.
  • Timely preparation of month-end financial reporting for presentation to shareholders and other key stakeholders
  • Prepare monthly reporting package for presentation to management and assist in preparing presentations to board of directors
  • Build and lead an accounting team, including providing analysis, insight and recommendations for major policy and strategic decisions.
  • Look for ways to improve the profitability, scalability, efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.
  • Partner with the senior team to assist in organic growth goals.
  • Various project work aimed at efficiency, scalability, and profitability.
  • Ensure technology continues to scale within the accounting function
