About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for the position of Controller, Foundation. This role provides strategic leadership and oversight of the financial operations of the University of Nevada, Reno Foundation, including the management of cash and investments exceeding $300 million. The Controller, Foundation is responsible for comprehensive financial, endowment, and investment reporting for the Foundation and its related 501(c)(3) entities. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the Foundation fulfills its fiduciary responsibilities to donors, the Board of Trustees, the University of Nevada, Reno, and the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, including GASB, IRS, NRS, and UPMIFA requirements, as well as Foundation, University, and NSHE policies and standard accounting practices. The Controller ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting across approximately 3,800 fund accounts, including more than 1,100 endowment funds. This position also supervises a team of professional and classified accounting and finance staff. In addition, the Controller researches, analyzes, and interprets complex accounting, banking, investment, and legal issues—both domestic and international—to ensure compliance and appropriate financial disclosure. This includes applying guidance from the University Administrative Manual, the NSHE Board of Regents Handbook, Foundation policies, IRS laws and regulations, and relevant U.S., state, and international legal, tax, banking, and investment standards. This position is essential to maintaining strong financial stewardship, transparency, and compliance in support of the Foundation’s mission and long-term sustainability.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree and three (3) years of related professional work experience OR Doctorate Degree and one (1) year of related professional work experience.
  • Related Professional Experience: Experience should include progressively responsible financial management experience
  • Experience preparing financial statements
  • Experience managing financial audits
