Sedron Technologies is hiring a talented Control Systems Engineer (II - III) to work in Chicago, IL! Sedron is a leading provider of circular waste management technologies for agricultural manure and municipal biosolids processing, deploying facilities across several North American regions. The Control Systems Engineer is an individual contributor role responsible for designing, implementing, and commissioning industrial control systems for Sedron’s process equipment and facilities. Working across control, process, mechanical, and electrical disciplines, this role supports projects ranging from pilot-scale R&D through full commercial deployment of Sedron’s advanced resource recovery technologies. In addition to control system execution, this role contributes to engineering documentation practices, system consistency, and data workflows that support scalable and maintainable solutions across Sedron’s projects and product lines. The Control Systems Engineer works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and is expected to bring both technical depth and a practical, field-oriented mindset to every project. Because we design, build, commission, and operate our technologies, we are looking for individuals who can meet the following essential functions of the position: Own complex control system scopes from initial design through startup and handoff, serving as the primary controls point of contact for assigned projects Specify, design, implement, and commission PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for industrial process equipment and facilities Develop Siemens-based control architectures using TIA Portal, SCL, Unified HMI, and PLCSIM, including multi-user environments and global library management Design and integrate control systems using common industrial communication protocols including PROFINET, IO-Link, Modbus TCP, and analog/digital I/O Commission and troubleshoot thermal, fluid, and combustion-based process equipment in both lab and field environments Lead control system execution for assigned projects, including coordination of control engineering and commissioning resources Redline and review process flow diagrams and P&IDs for controls accuracy and completeness Support HAZID/HAZOP reviews and contribute to the development of safety control functions and safety instrumented system (SIS) requirements Create and review controls narratives, cause and effect matrices, and functional specifications to support design reviews and regulatory compliance Ensure designs comply with applicable standards including IEC 61131-3, IEC 61511, ISA 5.1, PIP PIC001, and NFPA requirements Develop and maintain SCADA systems and associated data pipelines using Grafana, Telegraf, InfluxDB, and SQL Write and maintain control system documentation including loop diagrams, I/O lists, network architecture drawings, and as-built records using AutoCAD Plant 3D, EPLAN, and Bluebeam Support engineering documentation practices and system consistency standards that enable scalable, maintainable solutions across Sedron’s project portfolio Contribute to data workflow design and software integration using Python and C# as needed to support automation and reporting goals Coordinate with process, mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and project management teams throughout the project lifecycle Provide technical guidance and design review support to other control systems engineers and commissioning staff Participate in project tracking and task management using Microsoft Teams, Jira, and Smartsheet Support field commissioning and site visits as required; travel up to 25% depending on project phase This position allows for growth and career progression to be determined by performance, certifications, and supervisor discretion.
