About The Position

The El Segundo Control Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operations of the refinery’s process control systems and technology. Member of the El Segundo Control Systems Engineering team. Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: In this role, you’ll configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and program Distributed Control Systems (Honeywell TDC3000 and Experion), Safety Shutdown Systems (Schneider Triconex, Honeywell FSC), and various PLC applications, including providing related hardware support. You’ll partner closely with Operations to support the control room, and you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement solutions that improve unit optimization, process safety, and reliability. You’ll also keep procedures and system documentation current, bring technical and analytical insight to business planning and project development, help ensure systems and changes meet safety, reliability, and compliance requirements, and maintain system backups and contingency recovery procedures. This position participates in a rotating on-call schedule to help resolve after-hours system issues.

Requirements

  • If you don’t have a four-year degree, we may consider a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in lieu of formal education and training. Related roles may include Control Systems Engineer/Analyst/Technician, Process Control Engineer, Instrumentation & Electrical Technician, Analyzer Technician, PCN Administrator, System Engineer/Technician, and similar positions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering (Computer, Electrical, Chemical), or Information Technology (or closely related field).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DCS and control systems in refining, chemical, petrochemical, or other complex process facilities.
  • Capable of handling multiple complex projects simultaneously with impacts across Chevron sites.
  • Flexibility to adjust work hours as needed to support communications with remote sites across time zones.
  • A strong sense of ownership and the ability to work independently and as part of a team; proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Willingness to support outages at remote sites, which may require being away from the home office for several weeks to over a month.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, set priorities, and manage schedules.
  • May provide work direction to others or lead a small team.
