About The Position

This one-year contract lecturer position will teach four courses each semester in the fall and the spring, a total of eight courses for the year. The Keene State College Graphic Design Program is a multidisciplinary experience where students and faculty work together to create compelling artifacts of graphic design. At KSCGD, we work across a range of media and approaches to build beautiful and functional works of visual communication grounded in rigorous concept and form. We are embedded within a strong Art & Design department that fosters experimentation and excellence in the creation of visual form. Our students become smart generalists who are prepared to flexibly apply what they have learned to their future lives and careers. From foundation to advanced studios, our students are encouraged to discover and practice the essential skills and perspectives of a professional graphic designer. The ideal candidate for this position will support and expand this mission collaboratively with dedication and enthusiasm.

Requirements

  • The position requires a master’s degree in graphic design
  • Three or more years of recent and successful work experience in teaching graphic design at the college level
  • Five years of recent professional work experience for clients in the field of visual communication design.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, student, and community population is required.
  • The successful candidate will have the following technical proficiencies:
  • Mac OS (and Windows)
  • Strong proficiency in typography (static and kinetic)
  • Graphic design expertise (typography, design principles, layout, color)
  • Motion graphics and animation expertise using After Effects (and other animation software)
  • Web design expertise in UX/UI using HTML, CSS, and Figma
  • Illustration expertise in a range of styles and media for editorial and narrative applications
  • Adobe Suite (primarily Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, and XD)

Responsibilities

  • Will teach four courses each semester in the fall and the spring, a total of eight courses for the year.
  • All courses require projects that reinforce and enhance conceptual and critical visualization skills, image-making methods, and production techniques.
  • Graphic Design - This area encompasses all aspects of graphic design with a strong emphasis in typography conceptualization and creating beautiful visual form. Courses include specializations in typography, graphic design thinking, identity design and information design. Deliverable artifacts include posters, publications, menu, packaging, logo design and branding.
  • UI/UX Design - The UI/UX design courses blend technical skills, creativity, and strong visual communication. The intro courses introduce core skills in HTML and CSS and the fundamentals of user interface design. The upper level expands on this to feature app concepting, wireframing, UX/UI to prototype effective and attractive websites and mobile app prototypes using Figma.
  • Motion Design - The motion design courses offer introductory and advanced motion design experiences. Students integrate typography, images, video, audio, and special effects to create logo animations, animated characters, film-title sequences, and animated information graphics.
  • Illustration - The illustration courses focus on communication using images including hand drawing, vectors, photography and other image styles as they apply to editorial, advertising, and book illustration. Students are encouraged to develop different styles to meet various audiences.
