About The Position

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Contract Grant Assistant for the Office for Research. The Office for Research's mission is to support the research, scholarship, and creative endeavors of all Rutgers faculty. The Office accomplishes its mission by convening with academic and research leaders, providing integrated, user-focused resources, services, and tools, and partnering with faculty. As part of the Office for Research, this position serves as a member of a team of professionals in RU's ASAP Unit and will work with Research Financial Services (RFS) to facilitate the sponsored project activity to establish award accounts. The position reports to the Senior Manager for ASAP and is a critical bridge between the proposal stage in Research & Sponsored Programs (RSP) and the sponsored project activity in Research Financial Services (RFS). Among the key duties of the position are the following: Oversees award and agreement management and coordination, financial grants management relating to award establishment, compliance relating to award establishment as well as processing, distributing, and establishing executed awards in the RU's internal financial and administrative systems. Identifies financial, administrative, and/or regulatory issues impacting the execution of an award. Works with the research community to resolve these issues and establish the appropriate accounting framework on fully executed awards. Works collaboratively with the Research & Sponsored Programs (RSP) GS team to resolve issues and establish award setup in a timely fashion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in accounting, finance, business administration or related field and two years or more of work experience in an office setting.
  • Ability to be detailâ oriented and eager to learn.
  • Comfortable handling multiple tasks simultaneously in a fastâ paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with preâ or postâ award research administration activities, at either the department or central level, in an institution of higher education.
  • Knowledge of research compliance.
  • Experience with financial or accounting systems.
