JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible for providing timely multi-disciplinary Balance of Plant (BOP) engineering and design (Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrument) technical assistance to projects teams utilizing Solar gas turbine generators and compressors sets. Technically supports proposals, product development and/or projects, for gas compressor stations, power generation and co-generation facilities, offshore Single Lift Modules for both compression and power generation, that are part of Open Ground Modular (OGM) and Modular Building Solutions. “Modular Building Solutions” refers to Solar’s Configurable Modular Prefabricated Building (CMPB). The CMPB is a structural block-based building that houses Solar Turbomachinery and the BOP systems that support the Solar Turbomachinery. OGM may be comprised of loose ship process and conditioning skids, up to a highly integrated full system solution. Interfaces with Sales Management, Project Management, Construction Services Management, TurboFab Operations and Cost Management (TurboFab is Solar’s Fabrication facility in Channelview, TX), Turbomachinery Subject Matter Experts, Turbomachinery Engineering, and Supply Chain. Externally the incumbent interfaces with customer management, outside engineering company management, subcontractors, and suppliers. Travel to fabrication sites, installation sites, and customer facilities as needed to support proposals and project requirements. Position requires flexibility with personal schedule to meet deadlines and support occasional business travel.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, preferred, Structural or Chemical Engineering degree acceptable.
  • 15 years plus experience in leading engineering activities of complex proposals, product development and projects in the oil and gas industry, preferably involving Solar Turbines equipment.
  • Familiar with common design/fabrication/construction codes and specifications including ANSI, ASME (B31.3, B31.8, Sect. VIII, D2), ASTM, API, NEC, IEC (basic), and NFPA
  • Proficient with MS O365 tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in the English language.
  • Sense of urgency and good organizational skills are required to work with multiple assignments and competing priorities.
  • Must be USA citizen or “Green Card” holder with the ability to work in the US
  • Position requires flexibility with personal schedule to meet deadlines and support occasional business travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science Degree in Engineering is a plus.
  • Professional Engineering License is a major plus.
  • Experience with working with a fabrication yard or facility is a plus.
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical equipment (turbines, compressors, generators, process coolers, separator vessels, etc.) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with databases and development of software applications is a plus.
  • Ability to work in the United States and able to travel internationally.
  • Current US passport is preferred.
  • Codes used internationally (codes from other countries) – Desirable.
  • Ability to read/write in technical Spanish is a major plus.
  • Facilities design/construction/operations experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • For Solar gas compression and power generation proposals and projects, responsibilities encompass providing expert advice, conducting studies, driving the design and systems analysis, and ensuring projects compliance and safety.
  • Provides effective solutions to moderate technical challenges through strong technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues.
  • Assess the viability of projects during the early stages such as proposal development, including commercial evaluation, risk assessment, and identifying potential issues early on.
  • Drive and develop definition and detailed designs when required for gas compression and power generation facilities, ensuring they meet operational requirements and industry standards.
  • Drive and develop definition and detailed designs during products developments research and engineering stages (R&E).
  • When required due to the complexity and impact, reviews and provides comments to engineered deliverables (Basis of Design, calculations, drawings, reports, project specific specifications), Request for Quotes, and vendor documentation, etc. for soundness of technical judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy.
  • When required due to the complexity and impact, ensures that projects comply with relevant regulations, codes, and standards, including environmental regulations and safety standards.
  • Traveling domestically or internationally as required to support proposals and projects.
  • Following company processes and procedures as outlines in the Construction Services QMS process maps.
  • Being a technical steward or resource for project team members by assisting them to answer technical questions.
  • Support the engineering and design team as required when getting field inquiries during fabrication, installation, commissioning, and start-up of designed systems. Fabrication is normally at Solar’s fabrication facility (TurboFab) in Channelview, TX.
  • Assumes accountability for personal technical performance and holds others responsible for implementing the appropriate technical solutions.
  • Provides technical expertise and leadership to the Engineering and Design proposals, product development and project teams.
  • Quantifies the costs, benefits, risks, and chances for success before recommending a course of action.
  • Assists in the development of departmental standards, specifications, tools, processes, and equipment.
