About The Position

Auburn University is seeking a Construction Tech I to join our Facilities Management team in Zone 4, where your skills in sheetrock installation, repair, and painting will help shape and maintain the physical environment of our campus. As a Construction Tech I/II, you'll play a vital role in supporting the construction, repair, and maintenance of Auburn University's buildings, streets, and property. Your work will directly contribute to creating a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Requirements

  • Level I: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Level II: High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years of Experience in carpentry, roofing, road repair, and/or concrete forming and finishing.
  • Internal candidates may be required to provide training and certification requirements as outlined by the Auburn University Facilities Management Policy for some positions.
  • Basic knowledge of construction, infrastructure, and/or roofing techniques and principles
  • Ability to operate machinery and vehicles and use basic hand tools
  • Ability to adhere to all safe work practices and standards
  • Ability to learn and progress in the field
  • Valid Driver's License

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in carpentry, roofing, road repair, and/or concrete forming and finishing.
  • Preferred sheetrock repair and painting experience

Responsibilities

  • Level I: Prepares and paints all manner of surfaces including, but not limited to, masonry walls, sheetrock, external surfaces, and floors. Performs installation or maintenance preparation of surfaces for paint and finishes.
  • Assists in a variety of carpentry tasks and installations including, but not limited to ceilings, flooring, windows, doors and door jams, and siding in university buildings and structures throughout campus.
  • Operates motorized equipment including forklifts, truck/trailer combinations, dump trucks, and man lifts.
  • Maintains upkeep of ceilings throughout campus. Performs minor repairs to various types of ceiling systems to prevent or correct leaks and damage from penetrations in roofs.
  • May assist in the set up of barricades and other dividers across campus.
  • May be given the responsibility of individual project completion, seeing to its logistics, cleanliness, completion, and client interactions.
  • May perform minor demolition of structures, portions of structure, walls, or other related building system work as needed for renovation and/or construction projects.
  • May be responsible for meeting and maintaining training and certification requirements as outlined by the department's training and credentialing requirements.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Level II: Performs and leads a variety of carpentry tasks and installations including, but not limited to, layout, foundations, form carpentry, framing, drywall, ceilings, flooring, windows, doors and door jams, siding, and roofs in university buildings and structures throughout campus.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of multiple methods for maintaining roofs and ceilings throughout campus. Plans, schedules, and leads minor repairs of various types of roofing systems to prevent or correct leaks and damage from penetrations in roofs.
  • Forms, pours, and finishes cement structures; lays bricks and blocks on and around structures. Responsible for form building and installation, concrete finish work, and site layout and measurement.
  • Assists in the set up and removal of barricades, fences, and other dividers across campus. May pressure wash roofs, buildings, and sidewalks on campus.
  • Operates motorized equipment including backhoes, forklifts, skid steers, truck/trailer combinations, dump trucks, motor cranes, front-end loaders, man lifts, and other heavy equipment.
  • Plans, schedules, and leads excavation and demolition work as needed for renovation and construction projects.
  • Leads, prepares, and paints all manner of surfaces including, but not limited to, masonry walls, sheetrock, external surfaces, and floors. Performs installation or maintenance preparation of surfaces for paint and finishes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the proper demolition of structures, portions of structure, walls, sidewalks, or other related building systems. May lead team in performing this duty.
  • Plans, schedules, and executes patching of holes, cracks, and other surface problems in university streets. Demonstrates knowledge of the proper materials and methods used in patching.
  • Responsible for individual project completion, seeing to its logistics, cleanliness, completion, and client support.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.
