The Construction Lead reports to the Area Manager. Key responsibilities include supporting projects and project teams including New Build LR/CR/SR Sites, providing preconstruction support, site support including trouble shooting and turnover assistance, and assuming additional duties as assigned by the Area Manager. This role would also include supporting DEC New Builds in Program Initiatives and Problem Solving. This role also involves building high-quality internal and external partnerships. The SCM typically supports 6-8 regions, and due to the dispersed nature of the sites, significant travel is required, 50% or more, to ensure effective support and collaboration. A execution focus is essential, prioritizing incorporating lessons learned, team health, and project success, while maintaining high financial stewardship, collaboration, and partnership within our matrixed DEC organization.

  • Accountable for supporting New Build, land ready and Construction Ready sites, providing preconstruction support, managing retrofit and techmod projects, supporting programmatic initiatives as needed, and implementing lessons learned to drive continuous improvement and ensure project success
  • Accountable to provide clear, concise, and timely communications to the Area Manager (AM) and broader organization when delivery of capacity will be impacted. Ensures the correct elevation of issues for awareness and escalation of issues for leadership action/involvement
  • Responsible to contribute to the financial health and wellness of the projects within the assigned Area. Monitoring the Key Performance Indicators to ensure the health of the team and project
  • Responsible for providing support and guidance to the project team, particularly during contract and change order negotiations, and helping them prepare for successful presentations at Contract Change Order Approval Meetings (CCAM). As needed, engaging directly in negotiations to ensure a favorable outcome and drive successful results
  • Responsible for reviewing and advise on contracts and change orders above signing authority
  • Responsible for coordinating efforts with Area Construction Managers, Campus Construction Managers and other site team members to ensure consistency and alignment of priorities and sharing Lessons Learned and Best Practices
  • Responsible for ensuring the timely and appropriate resolution of issues on the sites
  • Develops high impact relationships with internal and external cross functional stakeholders to understand current opportunities for process optimization and create strategy across the Areas
  • Request and provide fast feedback when appropriate in support of continuous improvement of projects, partners, and peers
  • Other duties as assigned by the Area Manager
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent degree
  • Minimum of Fifteen (15) years professional experience in construction and project planning of complex, mission critical projects
  • Experience with various contract delivery methodologies, legal considerations, IP, and commercial terms
  • Experience in engineering, design, commissioning, and operations and ground up new build site development and construction as well as retrofit work in live environments
  • Proven track record of prioritizing and pivoting in response to changing business needs within a dynamic growth model
  • Possess persuasive communication and presentation skills, effective negotiation skills, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide solutions to complex problems under pressure
  • Experience in large scale construction management (excess of $500M/yr. Construction spend) required
  • Experience in design and construction supply chain and processes
  • Experience in data center engineering, design, commissioning, operations, telecommunications, network infrastructure, and ground-up new build site development and construction, as well as retrofit work in live environments, is highly desirable
  • Advanced Degrees in engineering and or business administration
  • Experience with a variety of construction models (Design-Build, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Lump Sum, Cost Plus, Fixed Fee, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience in Capital Budget Management is a plus
  • Successful experience with Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) delivery
